International students learning in the US on visas must leave the nation or risk deportation if their universities and faculties swap to online-only programs, US Immigration and Customs Enforcement introduced Monday.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, universities and faculties in the US are starting to make the choice to transition to on-line programs. At Harvard, for instance, all course instruction might be delivered on-line, together with for students dwelling on campus. For worldwide students, which means they should leave the US, in response to the assertion by ICE.

“This is going to create I think more anxiety on the part of international students, and for those who are still thinking about where they’re going to go in the fall, I think this may push them in the direction of attending a university in another country,” Brad Farnsworth, vp of the American Council on Education, mentioned.
