House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said that she and her family are “heartbroken and traumatized” after a brutal hammer attack on her husband, Paul Pelosi.

In a statement to the House on Saturday, the congresswoman said: “Yesterday morning, a violent man broke into our family home, demanded to confront me, and brutally attacked my husband, Paul.”

“Our children, our grandchildren, and I are heartbroken and traumatized by the life-threatening attack on our Pop.”

Pelosi expressed gratitude for legislation enforcement and medical professionals that responded to the incident and said her husband’s situation “continues to improve.”

Paul Pelosi, 82, was hospitalized after an intruder broke into the couple’s San Francisco residence within the early hours of Friday and “violently” attacked him with a hammer, authorities said.
