The iPhone 15 represents Apple’s biggest year-to-year hardware upgrade over the past few years. Compared to last year’s, it adds an upgraded 48MP camera, Dynamic Island (formerly exclusive to the Pro lineup), and USB-C with USB 2.0 speeds for charging and data (you still get MagSafe wireless charging). It’s also a tad more curvaceous with a brighter screen, includes Roadside Assistance via satellite, and has an improved ultra-wideband chip for more accurate Find My features, among other minor improvements that you can read about in our rundown of everything you need to know about the iPhone 15.

If you want to buy one directly from a wireless carrier, AT&T has some of the best iPhone 15 trade-in promos. New and upgrading customers can get up to $830 in credit when upgrading or adding a line on almost all plans depending on the phone they trade in, and Verizon’s iPhone 15 trade-in deals let you earn credit on almost any iPhone, even if you have something ancient like the iPhone 5. AT&T’s trade-in promotion is similar to Verizon’s. New and existing customers up to $830 off the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus (minimum $130 trade-in value) with qualified trade-ins, applied as a monthly credit for the length of your installment agreement.

You’ll get the most credit when trading in newer iPhones and flagship Android phones such as the Pixel 7, Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Fold 4, and the Galaxy S23 lineup. The promotion is available to both new and existing customers, whether upgrading a line or adding a new one on any plan.

AT&T iPhone 15 financing options

  • iPhone 15 retails for $829, but you can get 0% financing over 36 equal monthly installments of $23.05. That jumps to $929 for the 256GB ($25.83 monthly) and $1,129 for 512GB ($31.38 monthly). Your monthly payment could be $0 for the 128GB model if you fetch the highest trade-in value.
  • iPhone 15 Plus costs $100 more. The 128GB model starts at $929 ($25.83 monthly), 256GB costs $1,029.99 ($28.61 monthly), and 512GB is $1,229.99 ($34.16 monthly). With the maximum trade-in credit, your monthly payment could be as low as $2.78 for the 128GB iPhone 15 Plus.

You can also add $6 per month to enroll in AT&T Next Up, which lets you trade your iPhone for the newest model each year after paying 50% of its cost.

Bill credits may take a few months to show up, and you’ll lose any remaining credit and will need to pay the remaining balance due in full if you decide to cancel your service before the 36-month financing period.

iPhone 15 deals at Verizon

Verizon offers up to $830 off the iPhone 15 to new and existing customers who add an Unlimited Ultimate line when trading in any iPhone model. To get the highest values, Verizon stipulates that your trade-in credit must be applied as a monthly bill credit over 36 months.

The carrier accepts any iPhone—even ancient releases like the iPhone 5. Of course, you shouldn’t expect to get close to the total value if you’re trading in something that old. The newer the phone, the more you’ll get. Your phone’s condition also factors into the final trade-in value.

Plus, you can trade in your old smartwatch and add an Apple Watch Series 9 or Apple Watch Ultra 2 with your purchase for just $6 per month or $14 per month, respectively. Lastly, you can save 25% on a MagSafe charger and 20% on select cases and screen protectors.

Verizon iPhone 15 financing options

  • iPhone 15 starts at $829 if you want to buy it outright, but you can get 0% financing over 36 equal monthly installments of $23.05. That jumps to $929 for the 256GB ($25.83 monthly) and $1,129 for 512GB ($31.38 monthly). With maximum trade values, the 128GB iPhone 15 would be free.
  • iPhone 15 Plus costs a little more. The 128GB model starts at $929 ($25.83 monthly), 256GB costs $1,029.99 ($28.61 monthly), and 512GB is $1,229.99 ($34.16 monthly). Your monthly cost for an iPhone 15 Plus could be as low as $2.78.

Note, if you decide to cancel service before the 36-month financing period expires, you’ll lose the remaining credits and the device’s remaining balance will be due in full.

Other iPhone 15 trade-in deals

Both Apple and Best Buy allow you to trade devices in for credit that you can use toward an iPhone 15 or iPhone 15 Plus. You won’t see increased trade values like you’ll find purchasing through carriers, but it’s worth seeing how much you can get for your previous phone (and, in Best Buy’s case, any piece of tech you have laying around) if you’d rather buy the iPhone 15 outright.

iPhone 15 release date and price

The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will be available in stores starting September 22. Apple offers them in black, blue, pink, yellow, and green. Apple Store pricing starts at $799 for the iPhone 15 and $899 for the iPhone 15 Plus, both in 128GB. You’ll pay about $30 more than MSRP when purchasing the iPhone 15 from carriers, but with their higher trade-in values, that may be the better deal in the long run.

If you’re thinking of buying the phone outright and want to save some serious cash on your monthly plan for data and minutes, then you really should check out the world of MVNOs with short-term rolling contracts and prices that make the likes of Verizon and T-Mobile look ridiculous.

How do I get an iPhone 15  for free?

The only way you can walk away with a free iPhone 15 is to trade in qualifying devices at retailers for heightened promotional credits. While you can trade devices in at any time to get store credit, you can only tap into the abovementioned $830 trade values offered by carriers like AT&T and Verizon when trading in newer flagship smartphones in good condition toward an iPhone 15 Pro or Pro Max.

Some carriers stipulate that you must be on certain plans, too. Read the details of your preferred carrier’s offers carefully, and double-check your device’s estimated trade-in value before completing checkout.

If you’re not happy with the estimates you’re getting, consider selling your previous smartphone yourself at marketplaces like eBay or Amazon. You should be able to take home more money, which you can throw atop the heap of any cash payment you make.
