Leading US consulting firm McKinsey has offered staff nine months’ pay to pack their bags.

The offer extends to senior employees, such as engagement managers and associate partners, and follows a similar move within the company’s UK branch, according to the Australian Financial Review.

“These actions are part of our ongoing effort to ensure our performance management and development approach is as effective as possible, and to do so in a caring and supportive way,” a McKinsey spokesman said in an email, the publication reported.

“A core part of our mission is helping people learn and grow into leaders, whether they stay at McKinsey or continue their careers elsewhere.”

Under the deal, staff can look for new employment opportunities and choose not to contribute to client projects.

During that time they will continue to receive their full time salary over a nine-month period.

Senior staff will reportedly also have access to resources and career coaching services offered by McKinsey.

It is unclear how many staff will be eligible for the deal.

McKinsey indicated last year it planned to axe around 1400 jobs, primarily among its support staff rather than client-facing roles.
